speech software

[Moderator's note. Well, Windows XP includes, or can include, Microsoft's
speech recognition engine. It works pretty well although it is not as good
in my estimation as DNS. I have used it on Windows 2000, but I don't know
if/how well it works on older operating systems. Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=954f7083-f086-4d56-852a-387b419f2875&displaylang=en

or if this doesn't work (because I generated from my search), go to

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/

and type "speech recognition" in the search box. You'll find it
eventually.

Bob.]

Do you know where I can get a freeware application that will allow
me to use a microphone in order for the text to appear in Notepad or
Wordpad or Works Word Processor?

I have searched endlessly but cannot get around all the commercial
listings or text to speech which is the wrong application. I really can't
believe that a freeware application such as this does not exist so if you
could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

Thank you.
