[Moderator's note. Christine. Thanks--I also think the focus on education
(not ALWAYS apparent) has been useful. Anyway, as discussed in another
message today, Yahoo or similar may be the way to go. I participate in a
couple of Yahoo groups and a couple in some server called TopicA
(www.topica.com), but I've never set one up. Folks with experience should
send in messages about pros/cons, etc. We'll do SOMETHING! Bob]

Is there anyway to move this group to a yahoo or google group? I don't
know what it takes to monitor such a thing but I enjoy the educational
focus of this group. Other voice list serves that I participate in are
too technical most of the time and have endless discussion on the
perfect microphone or memory size. Anyway, that's just a thought on my
side since I enjoy the educational focus. Its such a unique group with
unique needs.

Subject: We're in our final month!

Dear spk2wrt list members,

Well, after crying wolf a number of times, it is now official: our
funding
from NIDRR runs out on 2/28/05. After that the listserv will have to
close
it's doors. While I've been a bit of an absentee monitor over the last
two
months or so, the list has also been pretty quiet, so I don't know which

came first...

Anyway, we've had a fine ride on the list since 1998 through two
projects,
the original "Speaking to Write" and the second project "Word for Word."

I'm pleased the list has continued to serve the community of people
interested in speech recognition in education. Our field is still
emerging
I think, but the technology's improvements have made our work a lot
easier.

The "Word for Word" project itself produced a prototype speech
recognition
product that is being developed and will be sold by QuillSoft (maker of
"WordQ") in Toronto.

I will continue to send out messages (a bit more regularly) as they
arrive
over the next four weeks, so get your questions together!

Thanks to all,

Bob Follansbee
