[Moderator's note. Joseph, this seems like a promising direction. Things
were so different with lists back in '98, but there are good list venues
now. I'd be happy to facilitate some way to keep the list going. Others
have expressed interest in some other venues also. As the month winds
down, maybe we'll decide as a virtual town hall how to help keep the
discussion going. More later... Bob]
I have not been a regular contributor to this list, but I have been
reading and taking in information. As a school AT coordinator I need to
keep on top of where voice recognition is so I know when it will work
for students of different needs. This list has been my only reliable
and consistent connection to that world. Maybe, if the group concurs,
we should think about recollecting as a Yahoo group once our connection
to Phoenix is gone. We may not have an expert moderator to post our
questions to, but that doesn't mean we couldn't help each other and get
input from those experts that are willing to join.

Dear spk2wrt list members,
Well, after crying wolf a number of times, it is now official: our
funding
from NIDRR runs out on 2/28/05. After that the listserv will have to
close
it's doors. While I've been a bit of an absentee monitor over the last
two
months or so, the list has also been pretty quiet, so I don't know
which
came first...
Anyway, we've had a fine ride on the list since 1998 through two
projects,
the original "Speaking to Write" and the second project "Word for
Word."
I'm pleased the list has continued to serve the community of people
interested in speech recognition in education. Our field is still
emerging
I think, but the technology's improvements have made our work a lot
easier.
The "Word for Word" project itself produced a prototype speech
recognition
product that is being developed and will be sold by QuillSoft (maker of
"WordQ") in Toronto.
I will continue to send out messages (a bit more regularly) as they
arrive
over the next four weeks, so get your questions together!
Thanks to all,
Bob Follansbee
