Antonio- you are correct that these two devices are very similar. It is
my understanding that the primary difference that is relevant for this
discussion is that the DM-1 does not use a removable flash media chip.
This means that it has only a fixed chip for recording. This may or may
not be an issue for you.

Also, as far as recording for classrooms... I have found a very nice
Sony analog recorder that is especially designed for this purpose. I've
not try to connected to a computer for download transcription... but I
would imagine coupling this with a Norcom SR1 connector should give you
a reasonable result for your personal dictation. I do not have its
model number, but it was available at Office Depot for approximately
$90.00.

Subject: Olympus DS-3000 vs DM-1

Hi,

I wonder if you can help me.

I need to buy a digital voice recorder to tape meetings mainly. =
Downloading to a computer is important. Transcribing audio file to text
=
is also important.

I've been looking at the technical specifications of the Olympus DS-3000
=
versus the ones for the DM-1. They do not seem to differ much. In fact =
the DM-1 is also an MP3 player.

Why would I wan to pay about double for the DS-3000?

What are the main advantages of the DS-3000 over the DM-1 that justify =
the higher price?

Many thanks,

Antonio
