That's very encouraging, Peggy. But right now all our teachers are under so
much pressure to meet standards (as dictated by testing) that Anything that
looks like it might slow the process they're locked into causes major
hysteria. That, of course, gets us back to the philosophical issue of what
public education is supposed to be all about. The Ag folks have a saying
that summarizes my opinion: "You don't fatten lambs by weighing them."
It isn't just special ed that needs to get reformed, and in the
interim our kids have to cope in the world as it is. High school seniors
for the most part, can vote and run for office and participate in the
changes they want to see. But we've got a way to go.
