I have cut and pasted a handout requested by some folks from a recent
presentation when using speech recognition with individuals with
learning disabilities. This handout describes and list what I have
found to be the best "beginning default" settings for using keystone
ScreenSpeaker and Dragon NaturallySpeaking with many students with
learning disabilities. Please remember that you must know your
student/client well and that you should plan to modify the settings once
you get to know the programs and the students.
If you would like to receive this handout in its colorized and formatted
version (a Word document), please feel free to e-mail me at
slc@innosolu.com and I will be happy to send it to you.
I will also be interested in hearing from Peter Kelway, Ed Rosenthal,
Nancy Icke, Lori Corry and others on the list serve with feedback as to
my suggested "beginning default" settings. Please see below.

In training, we will learn why we set up Dragon and ScreenSpeaker this
way and how and why to change the settings. We will use these settings
in our training sessions so that you may see how these settings apply to
various individuals and how individuals are enabled by these features to
independently successful use. We will also learn how to facilitate
individuals with learning disabilities and voice issues through various
training techniques and settings to successful independent use of the
programs. You will learn how to successfully train individuals with
learning disabilities to use Dragon and ScreenSpeaker independently, and
with high accuracy.
