For example it can be placed in the start up to be in sleep mode with a
Speakpad window up and the appropriate user already up and running.

I am doing a poor job of explaining myself. What I meant by the above
was....In DNS5 when you start the program it gives you a window showing the
user names. You must select a name and hit return or press OK. This step
is bypassed in ViaVoice.
