Dear Newbie,
Having seen your initial question and the responses, I will add a couple
more
thoughts. I have recently tested DNS 5 vs. VV 8 with several students (all
15
or less, various disabilities) and VV was easily as accurate as DNS out of
the box, and for one student maybe a bit moreso. Whatever differences there
were in accuracy decreased over successive uses. In short, unless there is
some idiosyncratic incompatibility between either program and a person's
voice, both are about equivalent in accuracy.
What is better about VV, that Peter K. refers to regarding "transcription,"
is that you can save a dictation session for later correction. This is just
like saving a document, but it includes the voice information, and the
files
are huge. But once the file is corrected/edited, it reverts to a regular
word
processing document. This is handy for use by some students.
On the other hand, the students I have worked with who have
spelling/LD-like
issues have all preferred DNS because the correction is much friendlier for
poor spellers. Also, the operation of the correction window in DNS is more
easily managed. ViaVoice requires extra mouse clicks or voice commands.
