    Claims by manufacturers that their products are "compatible" is often
    simply a sales pitch. If there are performance problems as you describe,
    then the technology is, by definition, not "compatible". Compatibility is,
    in any case, the wrong word. We are not talking about the board/chips being
    compatible with SoundBlaster technology but about them being "technically
    equivalent".

    The answer to your question is that they cannot make such a claim of
    compatibility but, as ever, the computer industry has no proper policing of
    such claims. "SoundBlaster compatibility" is in any case not an official
    measure.
