    If your son is reading at fifth grade level but not writing anything
    legible, he probably does have a learning disability.

    If you can't get the school to test him, you contact your pediatrician or a
    local ADHD support group for referrals for private evaluation. A strong
    diagnosis can convince school officials to proceed with testng, especially
    if, as in some states, they might be required to pick up the tab for
    private
    testing if a learning disability is diagnosed. Do this before the ADHD
    starts them pushing you to test him for behavior disorders.
