Hello to all those worried about DragonDictate's long-anticipated demise
We at Words Worldwide, and our predecessor company Aptech Limited, have
marketed DragonDictate for over ten years. Supplies are still available
and, though Dragon Systems is not keen to publicise the fact, there are no
plans to cease production for the foreseeable future. Our view is that the
DragonDictate product will not die for many years, at least until an
operating system appears which cannot support the product.
For those who are keen to try Dragon NaturallySpeaking in discrete mode,
please note several important facts:
1 DNS has an inferior strategy for generating choices in the correction
box
2 DNS has rather less noise immunity, other factors being equal
3 DNS has less tolerance for those with poor speech production and
dysarthricity
4 DNS has far greater demands on processor speed, memory and disk
capacity
5 DNS has none of the flexibility of changing font type and size for VI
users
6 DNS enrollment can be very difficult for dyslexic and VI users,
without
add-on programs
7 DNS is less stable than Dictate which has had the benefit of over 10
years in the field
I am happy to share our experiences of working with both of these
extraordinarily good products over the years, as trainer, consultant and
software developer.
With kind regards
Dr Peter S Kelway
