Our company works with speech recognition technologies. When I originally
evaluated the Phillips Free Speech program I decided that it was not up to
the standard of some of the other "mainstream" continuous speech voice
recognition software programs, so have not continued to work with it. I
think both Dragon Systems and IBM produce better quality products.
You have not indicated whether or not this student has a disability, and if
so the nature and extent of this disability... this certainly has an impact
on the selection of which software products to consider.-Ed.

Subject: Phillips Free Speech
A parent called me and stated that she purchased the Phillips Free Speech
voice recognition program and she was having some difficulties with it. She
is
unable to use the command features of it effectively and she has to turn the
program off any time she wants to use other programs, such as Microsoft
Works.
I do not know the program at all and can not help her. She is also looking
for
a voice recognition program with voice commands that her son can use with
computer games and the internet. Does anyone know anything about the
Phillips
program and does anyone have any information regarding good voice command
software?
Thanks!
