I would encourage anyone attempting to use continuous speech with a young
person or an individual with compromised speech to make sure that their
speech recognition system is working properly. It would be a shame to
conclude that the problem was related to the speaker when it could be a
poorly matched system or failed component. Audio is everything in speech
recognition. In many situations a different microphone and or sound card
can work miracles. A easy unscientific check is to use the Microsoft
Windows recorder and make a short recording and play it back and listen for
excessive noise. You will need a clean audible signal.
