Hi
I am an assistive technology specialist for Fairfax County Schools in VA. We
have been using Dragon Dictate for almost 2 years in our county with
physically disabled students. When training the word lists for Dragon
Dictate, we have a trainer say the word to the student while sitting next to
them. The student then trains the word by saying it the prompted number of
times. Even though most of our students can read most of the words (we have
had some exceptions), we find that if we say the word first there is a better
chance of the student saying the word correctly and consistently which results
in better trained voice files. It does not pick up on the microphone when
someone is sitting next to the student. We set the options in the training
window to normal or intense training as light training does not seem to
develop good files. Naturally Speaking is another matter. Since it does not
do well with children's voices, we have stayed away from using it. We have
many students using DragonDictate very sucessfully with many types of
disabilities, cognitive, physical and speech involvement. We did not have
alot of luck with Power Secretary or IBM Voice Type.
