Dear Daniel, Thanks for the definition in terms, I agree with your
assessment that some form of mentoring goes on before any tutoring takes
place. Having been a tutor many times, I couldn't agree more, developing
a relationship is a given. As a teacher, it is well known that the more
mutually respectful relationships and community building that a teacher
can develop in the classroom the better learning will takes place. My
choice to keep the terms mentor and tutor separate comes from experience
in observing high quality programs get folded into other existing programs
and then both programs become diluted... I can almost predict that with
the NCLB wave about to descend, I can see the "soft serve" mentoring being
corrupted into a need to "tutor"... so how can we keep them separate, or
do we need to from a funding point of view??
