Chris ...Your "pickle Press" is really cool... that is exactly what I am
talking about...my group would love to get this up and running for our
town... one of the issues that comes up (from adults), when I talk about
newsletters is "adult supervision or editing". There is much division over
whether kids "do it themselves" and those who get freaked out over that
idea. We don't want a handful of opinions taking over, so how do you
"oversee" what goes in??
Also, thanks so much for the explanation of how you do
mentoring/tutoring...great ideas.. Obviously people are going to be more
willing to talk about scary topics when no one else knows who they are and
sometimes just a little boost helps people break the silence. And as far
as tutoring goes, the youth are helping each other which serves to
reinforce skills. Great ideas. Now if you don't mind me asking, how do
you get funded for these activities? I am really interested in moving into
after school computer training which would include newsletter writing,
paper and electronic; web site design, video taping skills? A
technologically focused after school program that keeps adolescents in a
healthy, productive environment where they are also learning work skills
Lastly, of course you can use my definition but also read what
tutormentor1 has to say about these things. Seems to me that Cabrini
Connections (Chicago, Ill.) are forerunners in this field. L. Chaffin
