<p>ScienceQuest is growing!

<p>We are inviting groups of CTCs to attend a one-day workshop at the 2003
National CTCNet Conference in Washington, DC. This email explains this
workshop and how to apply. Over the last two years, ScienceQuest has
worked with over 45 individual CTCs (and over 450 kids) nationwide to
create after school programs that inspire enthusiasm and interest in
science and technology among under-served youth. At the workshop, we will
give CTC Clusters (networks of four or more CTCs) the tools to create
comprehensive, community-wide, after school science and technology
programs for middle school students. See the bottom of this email for

<p>WORKSHOP INFORMATION:

<p>When: Pre-Conference session at the 2003 National CTCNet Conference on
Thursday, June 26, 2003, from 9 AM to 5 PM
Where: Conference hotel - Grand Hyatt (1000 H Street) Washington, DC
Who: CTC clusters which apply and are accepted. Space is very limited!

<p>The ScienceQuest Cluster Program was developed with the idea that CTCs,
staff, and youth benefit when organizations share resources, ideas, and
experiences. The Cluster Program is for CTCs who currently work, or have
strong desire to work with other organizations to deliver collaborative,
quality after school science & technology programs.

<p>CLUSTER BENEFITS
ScienceQuest invites representatives from up to ten clusters to
participate in our training program. Each cluster will receive the
following:
- A comprehensive "How to Do It" Guide & Tool Kit;
- A CD of templates and reproducible materials;
- Web site building and hosting services for one year (up to 50 team
sites);
- Access to live support, including an on-call science specialist;
- Regular conference calls with a network of experienced ScienceQuest
participants;
- A help-line for advice and assistance;
- Subscription to the ScienceQuest discussion list; and
- A $1,000 discretionary fund for the cluster.

<p>WHAT ARE CLUSTERS?
Clusters are groups of after school programs that work together to share
resources, support each other, find funding, or exchange curriculum ideas.
They can be as small as four CTCs that have developed a partnership over
the years, or as large as the state boys and girls club network. Some CTCs
are clustered by type (for example: Neighborhood Network Centers), by
geography (a city consortium) or by funding (for example: Boys and Girls
Clubs).

<p>APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
As part of the application, you will submit a preliminary implementation
plan about how ScienceQuest fits with your community. Selection will be
based on the feasibility of your proposed plan (including commitment of
lead coordinator, strength of the collaboration, etc), and not on the size
of your cluster or its past accomplishments. Prospective applicants are
encouraged to contact us prior to submitting applications, although this
not necessary. The application is due April 30, 2003.

<p>In addition, each cluster should have a Cluster Coordinator who will:

<p>- Submit the application to join the ScienceQuest Cluster Program,
- Assist cluster members to establish, plan, implement and support
ScienceQuest teams after the June workshop,
- Run local workshops, help recruit volunteers, contact the local press,
- Provide progress summaries to the ScienceQuest staff.
