Hello, I was forwarded your email from a collegue of mine. One idea that
I have is a program called "Window between Worlds" which is based out of
Venice Beach LA. I am not sure if they are still in business, but they
had an entire "curriculum" developed to use art as a therapeutic process
for children in battered womens shelters. I am an MFT and I faciltated
groups at a shelter using their ideas and approaches and found it quite
well done. Another advantage to this program is that it is set up for
volunteers to facilitate, it doesnt have to be licensed therapists, which
could be very cost effective. It already had been modified for a shelter
setting, and work was done in small groups. They had much of the
documentation and infastructure established and at the time, even provided
a newsletter and support to those using their program. Delores Sanico was
the Executive Director.
I hope this info is helpful. I will check my resources and see if I can
come up with a phone number or address for contact information. Even if
they are no longer established, (they were a non profit) if you could find
a contact they might be willing to sell you the work already done on the
program so you aren't reinventing the wheel. I can be reached via email
at this address or phoned at 438-4080 ext 226. Best of luck with your
endeavor, it is a great need you are serving. Sincerely Catherine
Marcotte
