STATEMENT OF WEEK 5, 'Sustainable Use of Natural Resources'
As the abuse of local natural resources is a local problem that is partly
caused by overuse, mismanagement and corruption, sustainable management of
natural resources will primarily have to be developed locally. Outside
influence, as proposed by the Africa policy paper, will not lead to greater
effectiveness, unless there is a link between local initiatives and
international agreements.
