Dear All,
Welcome to the theme of Week 2 (Nov 27-Dec 3): How to reshape education and
training to adjust the present and emerging ICT revolution?
Though the timeframe set for the discussion on this broad and complex theme
is short, we hope members shall be able to reflect their viewpoints on this
issue.
With the emergence of ICT revolution, new types of products, services and
areas of use are emerging and knowledge is needed if the opportunities
offered by this development are to be utilised in full. The
distinctinctions
among work, life and leisure are becoming diminshed day by day. Societies
are taking multiple of benefits using these tools and applications while
doing tasks, finding information and communicating.
In such a situation, the individual needs a broad mastery of ICT for
everyday life as well as for work. The need is a direct result of te
structural change in the economy and society undergoing due to the
developments in ICTs. The changes in the need of human resources with both
basic and specialized ICT skills have long been reflected in the labour
market.
The rapid progress in the ICT field demands that the individual must
be equipped with the skills of continually acquiring knowledge in that
field
or for life long learning rather than acquiring a onetime skillset in ICT.
ICT led developments and competition between firms are leading to changes
in
the employment process – with the passage of time some kinds of jobs
are disappearing and replaced by different jobs.
This poses a challenge for the society on the provisioning of adequate
skilled human resource. It is understood that actions must be taken in the
early years of the individual’s development process to intitaiate and
impart the skill required. The young population shall be motivatd towards
learning and acquiring knowledge rather than being educated. ICTs play even
more important role in higher education as output of speacialized ICT
skilled workforce depends on this.
Most workers needs to upgrade their skills and knowledge otherwise the
resulting skillgap due to the emerging technological progress leads to
unemployment and deskilling. Their need of education and training shall be
addressed.
The theme of this week seeks reflection on these issues and related
matters.
You send your views on how your society reacts to the needs of labour
market
against the developments in ICT. What is being done in your local or
national situations and what should be done?
Looking forward to your comments.
Thank you,
