I was motivated by our able sister Poonam's one year
anniversary letter to the YES community and I must
agree with her that YES has gone atleast somewhere
unimagined, while we were all sweating it out in
Alexandria.In just such a sort time the Youths of the
world have proven to be great achievers and action
oriented people, when given a true chance to deliver.
This real challenge was posed a year ago by the YES
community in Alexandria.
Despite the fact that we had some amount of success we
still had some issues that is not only defocusing but
embarassing to our great cause, while some provides us
with an opportunity to learn and act upon our
experiences from the journey so far. I will want to
suggest that there should be a stock taking of our
success,challenges and problems so far. Develop a plan
of confronting these issues as well as design a road
MAP that will ensure that negative events do not
reoccur in our journey towards Mexico and beyond.
I will only like to mention what I believe is critical
in the path of YES's success. The embarrassing faking
of YES activities to deceive people who have good
intentions towards achieving the YES goals, to loose
thier money, waste their time,loose their hope, and
cast doubts in their minds in deciding as to which is
which? I am more particular about Fake conferences.
I must confess that the early warning signals sent out
by Fred and others has helped to reduce the degree of
damage caused by this ring of uncivilized greedy
bunch.This has been the medication so far but are we
going to stop at that? or we are going to form a
united front for fighting this menace? can YES set a
criteria for any event in its name locally, country
wide or world wide, by making the communications unit
of YES to be a part of the organisation or to veto it
somehow? What are the implications to YES and of what
will it be to ensuring that people are saved from
losses of money and materials. I know this is serious
but it is also dangerous and may have a negative
effect on the next summit,it is time to act right now.
Another issue is how external are these criminals to
us? Are they truly outside our YES community? or aided
by people who are well informed about our activities
from amongst us? I very much doubt if they are just
acting on web info. I feel there should be a case by
case assessment on the past events to help us make a
good judgement and proffer a better solution.
Everything is a learning process and we must not only
learn but act on the experiences (negative and
positive)from this eventfull one year!We must know why
things happened, how they happened and what must be
done to counter negative outcomes and how to improve
on, or reinforce positive outcomes.The impact is
really felt both ways believe it or not.
Finally, I will like to congratulate everyone on the
occassion of the one year anniversary, especially the
strong team that prompted and convince us to meet in
Alexandria, this is a pat on your backs for making
history and to the rest of us who must ensure that the
Alexandria Declaration is not only achieved but
maintained for generations yet unborn.
"I have a dream" that "It can be done! It must be
done! It will be done"
