case studies of service programs

I have been collecting information on how service (understood as an
organized period of substantial engagement and contribution to the local,
national, or world community, recognized and valued by society, with
minimal monetary compensation to the participant) may lead to changes in
economic status of young people. If you know of any service programs (other
than U.S.) that accent the goal of further employability of youth, please
let me know about those. I am also interested in any research/sociological
studies that were done on this topic. I will appreciate any info. Thanks a
lot in advance.
