Dear Friends,

Assuring access to education for all youths calls for methodological and
determined approaches, and commitment from all quarters.

Education is described as a process of learning that leads to a new
consciousness, self-worth, societal and gender analysis, access to skills
and information.

Countries the world over have some form of formal educational system in
place, that do provide a skillset, a quality of employability. But it
appears the skillset being provided is not enough to meet prevailing global
situations, so we still have unemployed graduates, among others.

Appropriate education for youth in this context will mean an education that
impacts a 'quality of employability' that can effectively meet the
multi-dimensional issues that affect youth employment, what can be said to
be an enhanced skillset.

We can build educational structures to achieve this enhancement, by
incorporating basic IT education, entrepreneurship and employability
competency into formal educational systems, so that they become universal
and basic skills.

And because young people need to feel confident, more in control of their
lives to act effectively, making life skills education basic and a part of
formal education will enhance the employability of youths.

For the unemployed youth who is marginalized in terms of skills and
education, Governments setting up skills acquisition centre that also give
basic literacy education will help provide access to education and
training.

These services are being provided by civil society organizations, and
Governments too, but it is fairly isolated and only comparatively few
youths can access the trainings. Governments and NGOs and other
stakeholders need to come together, draw up modalities, curriculum, how to,
on making these trainings and information a part of the school system.

All these, and working towards free and compulsory education of good
quality by 2015 (Dakar)

Best regards
