DEAR MEMBERS OF THE URUGUAY YES NETWORK:

The Alexandria Summit was a historical event in every way: for the first
time, a Global Summit united leaders from different fields, representatives
of several organizations, the United Nations system, youth organizations,
and Governments focused on the topic of youth employment. For the first
time, youth employment was the agenda and not simply a topic on the agenda.
At the end of 5 days, the Global Alliance for Youth Employment launched a
Campaign of Action so that millions of youths, especially those facing
poverty, have sustainable and productive lives by 2012.

Now is the time for us to focus on concrete actions that must be
implemented - to examine what the role is for each one of us, as actors
from different sectors, to reduce global poverty and promote sustainable
development through youth employment.

To build the Campaign after Alexandria, we will focus on our objectives and
constantly evaluate our efforts. For this reason, the first global Summit
Campaign event hosted by the Government of Mexico in 2004 will be a
fundamental step toward achieving the Campaign goals. As a Global Alliance
for Youth Employment, we will review the two years of progress and the plan
for the rest of the Decade Campaign with the firm commitment to identify
and promote "what works" for creating productive and sustainable
livelihoods for youth.

We will only reach the collective goal of assuring that youth can be
productive elements in their communities, with the support of institutions
around the world. This depends on our personal commitment to the young men
and women of our society that represent the greatest resource and the most
brilliant promise.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Youth Employment Summit Campaign.
There are already 65 YES Networks working around the world, and we are
extremely enthusiastic that Uruguay is creating a national network, with
special support from Dacil Acevedo in Argentina.

We hope to see and welcome you in Mexico for the Youth Employment Summit
2004 and to share experiences and inspire actions that create employment
opportunities for the youth all over the world.

With my most sincere greetings,

Esteban González
Co-Chair
Youth Employment Summit Campaign
