Additional Opportunities

Hello Questers!

We are doing a bit of informal evaluation of our support to you, the teams
and coaches.

As you know, we currently have a buffet of options: web site (itself
containing lots of different sections), conference calls, listserve, etc.
If you don't have the list, let me know and I can email you copy
separately.

Recently we have had two questions:
1) How are all these things working? Which do you use most, least? Which
do you find the most helpful, not so helpful? Which are the best when you
have a specific question and which are good for getting general ideas and
feedback?

2) What are some other things that coaches and coordinators could use?
There are two things that come to mind in this area, and you might have
additional notions.
First, we could offer specialized panels via conference call. For example,
there are some very interesting scientists from around the country who have
volunteered to talk with you about their research - bears in Montana, the
physics of music, newly discovered galaxies, and others. We could invite
one each month to talk for 30 or 45 minutes and answer questions about what
they do and what they are finding out. Or we could invite specialists in
other areas of teaching and learning to share their information.
Second, Follow-up workshops to the in-person workshops. For example, we
could develop (with help from others) on-line courses that would provide
coaches a chance to really explore one aspect of coaching in more depth.
Some of you have mentioned that the kids want to cut and paste text from
other websites without really understanding what they are reading. Others
have wondered about how to stay one step ahead of the kids when they are
researching something that is not familiar to you. These are both topics
that could be presented in a more "course"-like format. Obviously, there
would need to be enough people interested, and it would take some time to
prepare. We might be able to arrange for you to get college credit, as
well.

3) [your ideas go here]

Take a minute and let us know what you are thinking about these options!

Thanks, as always, for your thoughtful response to this work. It means a
lot to us!
Jennifer Dorsen
