What are the Tools and Techniques for Facilitation?

Achieving CSA's main objectives demands knowledge about a number of topics and techniques. CSA has developed a Facilitator Manual, SMC/PTA Resource Handbook and accompanying Training Guide to guide the CSA interventions and community mobilization activities. These documents give the facilitator a step by step approach to understand, support and implement the key interventions and processes of the CSA project.

Topics covered include:

  • Working with the adult learner to acquire new skills, knowledge and experiences
  • Community social mobilization and development skills
  • Use of basic facilitation tools and techniques, for example: ice breakers, brainstorming, buzz groups, small and large focus-group discussions, case studies, role-plays and presentation lectures.

The effective use of these tools and techniques helps ensure full community participation for the adult partners in the community; SMC and PTA executives, Chief/elders, Assembly person, Unit Committee, community members, teachers, and district education and government officials.
